Cottage Pie (코타지 파이)

Cottage pie and a traditional English dish that we decided to cook as an alternative for a Christmas dinner! Cottage pie uses minced beef which is similar to shepherd's pie which uses minced lamb.

Ingredients
  1. - Minced beef / ground beef
  2. - 4 carrots
  3. - mushrooms
  4. - 4 tomatoes
  5. - 2 or 3 onions
  6. - 1 cup of beef stock/gravy
  7. - olive oil
  8. - crushed garlic
  9. - Worcester sauce
  10. - 1 can of tomato paste
  11. - butter
  12. - 1 cup of milk
  13. - a dozen peeled potatoes
Instructions
  1. Boil the peeled potatoes for around 30 minutes until they are soft enough to put a fork through them.
  2. Add olive oil to the frying pan and layer the pan.
  3. Cut and dice the carrots and onions and add them to the frying pan.
  4. Cook the carrots and onions until they are softened.
  5. Once carrots are softened, add the mince/ground beef to brown and cook.
  6. Cut and add the tomatoes and mushrooms to the frying pan. (Optional)
  7. Add some of the crushed garlic and tomato paste to the frying pan.
  8. Add the beef stock/gravy to the frying pan once the meat is browned.
  9. Cook the contents of the frying pan for a few minutes until it's just a little runny.
  10. Turn off the heat.
  11. Mash the boiled potatoes.
  12. Add a little bit of milk at a time while mashing the potatoes to get the right consistency.
  13. Add butter to the mashed potatoes while mashing.
  14. Continue to mash the potatoes until there are no more lumps.
  15. Put the meat contents of the frying pan into an oven style pan.
  16. Spread the meat so that it is consistently covering the bottom of the pan. About 1/4 of the bottom of the oven pan.
  17. Add and spread the mashed potato to cover the top of the meat in the oven pan.
  18. Add shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the potato.
  19. Place in oven and heat until the top is slightly browned.
